 Surat An-Naba' (The Tidings) - سورة النبإ

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

78:1

 عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

AAamma yatasaaloon

عَمَّ -AAamma-About what

يَتَسَآءَلُونَ-yatasaaloon-are they asking one another 

What are they asking (one another)?  

(Tafsir)And from his narration on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that he said regarding the interpretation of Allah's saying (Whereof do they question one another?): He says: 'what are they-meaning the people of Quraysh-talking about?'

**Yeh log kis cheez ke bary mein poch tach ker rahe hein**

78:2

عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ

AAani annaba-i alAAatheem

عَنِ-About-AAani;ٱلنَّبَإِ - annaba-the News

 ٱلْعَظِيمِ-the Great- alAAatheem

About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.),

(Tafsir)((It is) of the awful tidings) they are talking about the tidings of the noble, glorious and great Qur'an,

**  Wo  khabar   Qur'an-e-paak ke mutaliq se; aur  Qiyymat ki khoufnaak khabar kay mutaliq**

78:3

الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ

Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoon 

- Allathee-which; -hum-About;-feehi-theyفِيهِ هُمْٱلَّذِى

-mukhtalifoon-(are) concerning itمُخْتَلِفُونَ(in) disagreement.

About which they are in disagreement.

(Tafsir)(Concerning which they are in disagreement) some of them disbelieve in Muhammad (pbuh) and in the Qur'an while others believe in them. This is because whenever Gabriel brought down a section of the Qur'an to the Prophet (pbuh) and he recited it to them, they used to talk about it, and some of them would believe while others would persist in their disbelief.

** Jis kay bary mein yeh ikhtelaaf ker rahay hein.**

78:4

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Kalla sayaAAlamoon 

kalla-Nay-كَلَّا

-sayaAalamoon-Soon they will knowسَيَعْلَمُونَ

Nay, they will come to know!

(Tafsir)(Nay) this is a reply to the disbelievers, (but they will come to know!) They will come to know upon the advent of death what will be done with them.

** Yaqeenan yeh abhi jan lein ge.**

78:5

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoon  

summa-Then-ثُمَّ kalla-Nay;-كَلَّا

-sayaAalamoon-Soon they will knowسَيَعْلَمُونَ

Nay, again, they will come to know!

(Tafsir)(Nay) truly, (again, but they will come to know!) They will come to know in the grave what will be done with them. This is a threat from Allah to those who disbelieved in Muhammad (pbuh) and in the Qur'an.

 **Phir bil yaqeen inhein buhat jald maloom hojaey ga.**

78:6

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا

Alam najAAali al-arda mihada 

أَلَمْ-Alam-Have not;نَجْعَلِ-najAAali-We made

ٱلْأَرْضَ - al-arda-the earth

مِهَـٰدًا -mihada-a resting place

Have We not made the earth as a bed,

(Tafsir)Allah then mentioned the blessings He bestowed upon them, saying: (Have We not made the earth an expanse) and a place to sleep,

 **Kiya hum nay zameen ko farsh nahi banaya?**

78:7

وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

Waljibala awtada 

-Waljibala-And the mountainsوَٱلْجِبَالَ 

أَوْتَادًا-awtada-(as) pegs

And the mountains as pegs?

(Tafsir)(And the high hills bulwarks) for it so that it does not sway?

 **Aur paharon ko meekhein (nahi banaya)?**

78:8

وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا

Wakhalaqnakum azwaja 

-wakhalaqnakum-And We created youوَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ

 أَزْوَٲجًا-azwaja-(in) pairs

And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short,
 good and bad, etc.).

(Tafsir)(And We have created you in pairs) male and female,

**Aur hum nay tumhein jora jora me paida kiya.**

78:9

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

WajaAAalna nawmakum subata

-wajaAAalna-And We madeوَجَعَلْنَا 

-nawmakum-your sleep; -subata-(for) restسُبَاتًانَوْمَكُمْ

And have made your sleep as a thing for rest.

(Tafsir)(And have appointed your sleep for repose) a repose for your bodies; and it is said this means: nice and beautiful,

 **Aur hum nay tumhari neend ko aram ka sabab banaya.**

78:10

وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

WajaAAalna allayla libasa

-wajaAAalna-And We madeوَجَعَلْنَا 

-allayla-the nightٱلَّيْلَ

(libasa-as) covering-لِبَاسًا

And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness),

(Tafsir)(And have appointed the night as a cloak) and it is said this 
means: a dwelling,

**Aur raat ko hum nay parda banaya hai.**

 

78:11

وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

WajaAAalna annaharamaAAasha 

-wajaAAalna-And We madeوَجَعَلْنَا 

-annahara-the day;مَعَاشًا-maAAasha-for) livelihoodٱلنَّهَارَ 

And have made the day for livelihood.

(Tafsir)(And have appointed the day for livelihood) for seeking livelihood.

** Aur din ko hum nay waqat-e-rozgar banaya.**

78:12

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا

Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidada 

-wabanayna-And We constructedوَبَنَيْنَا 

-fawqakum-over youفَوْقَكُمْ 

-sabAAan-seven;-shidada-strongشِدَادًاسَبْعًا 

And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),

(Tafsir)(And We have built) and We have created (above you) above your heads (seven strong (heavens)) seven thick heavens,

**Aur tumhary ooper hum nay saat (7) masboot asman banaey.**

 

78:13

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

WajaAAalna sirajan wahhaja 

-wajaAAalna-And We placedوَجَعَلْنَا 

سِرَاجًا-sirajan-a lamp; -wahhaja-burningوَهَّاجًا

And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun).

(Tafsir)(And have appointed a dazzling lamp) and have appointed a 
radiant sun for the children of Adam,

**Aur ik chamkta howa roshan chiragh (sooraj) paida kiya.**

78:14

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا

Waanzalna mina almuAAsiratimaan thajjaja

-waanzalna-And We sent down;-mina-fromمِنَوَأَنزَلْنَا 

-almuAAsirati-the rain cloudsٱلْمُعْصِرَٲتِ 

-maan-water; -thajjaja-pouring abundantlyثَجَّاجًامَآءً 

And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water.

(Tafsir)(And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant Water,

**Aur badlon say hum nay bakasrat behta hua pani barsaya.**

78:15

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

Linukhrija bihi habban wanabata  

-linukhrija-That We may bring forth;-bihi-therebyبِهِۦلِّنُخْرِجَ 

habban-grain-حَبًّا

-wanabata-and vegetationوَنَبَاتًا

That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations,

(Tafsir)Thereby to produce grain and plant) to produce through the rain all kinds of grains and plants,

** Takay us say anaj or sabza ugaein.**

78:16

وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا 

Wajannatin alfafa 

-Wajannatin-And gardensوَجَنَّـٰتٍ 

(alfafa-of) thick foliage-أَلْفَافًا

And gardens of thick growth.

(Tafsir)(And gardens of thick foliage) and it is also said this means: 
different kinds of foliage.

 **Aur ghanay bagh (bhi ugay).**

 

78:17

إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا

Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqata  

-inna-Indeed; yawma-the) Day-يَوْمَ إِنَّ

-alfasli-of) the Judgmentٱلْفَصْلِ

kana-is;-meeqata-an appointed timeمِيقَـٰتًا-كَانَ 

Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time,

(Tafsir)(Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time) it is the appointed 
time when the people of old and later generations will be gathered,

 **Be-shak faislay kay din ka waqat mukarer hai.**

78:18

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا

Yawma yunfakhu fee assoorifata/toona afwaja  

-yawma-The) Dayيَوْمَ  ;-yunfakha-is blownيُنفَخُ

 -fee-in; فِى

-assoori-the trumpetٱلصُّورِ

 -fata/toona-and you will come forthفَتَأْتُونَ 

أَفْوَاجًا-afwaja-(in) crowds

The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come
 forth in crowds (groups);

(Tafsir)(A day when the trumpet is blown) the blowing of the
 resurrection, (and ye come in multitudes) host after host 
and group after group,

** Jis din kay sor mein phonka jaey ga phir tum foaj der foaj chale aao ge.**

 

78:19

وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا

Wafutihati assamao fakanatabwaba 

-wafutihati-And is openedوَفُتِحَتِ 

assamao-the heaven;-fakanat-and becomesفَكَانَتْ-ٱلسَّمَآءُ 

-abwaba-gatewaysأَبْوَٲبًا

And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates,

(Tafsir)(And the heaven is opened) and the gates of heaven are 
opened (and becometh as gates) and becomes different roads,

**Aur asman khool diaya jaey ga to is mein darwazy 
darwazy hojaein ge.**

78:20

وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanatsaraba 

-Wasuyyirati-And are movedوَسُيِّرَتِ 

-aljibalu-the mountainsٱلْجِبَالُ 

-fakabat-and become;-saraba-a mirageسَرَابًافَكَانَتْ 

And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and 
they will be as if they were a mirage.

(Tafsir)(And the hills are set in motion) on the face of the earth 
(and become as a mirage.

**Aur pahar chalaye jaein ge pus wo sarab hojaein ge.**
